Knowledge, perceptions and attitude of women about cervical cancer and its screening in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria

In Nigeria, cervical cancer is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among women. This study was conducted to determine women’s knowledge, perceptions attitude its screening services in Iyin-Ekiti, South-Western Nigeria. A community-based, cross-sectional used. An interviewer-administered, semi-structured questionnaire used elicit information from 397 women reproductive age who were recruited using the multistage sampling technique. SPSS version 20 for statistical analysis at univariate bivariate levels. The level significance set p-value ≤ 0.05. Only 182 (45.8%) respondents aware cancer. Among those aware, 78 (42.9%) had poor 85 (46.7%) both perception negative toward screening. Age (p=0.001), marital status ethnicity religion (p=0.04), employment monthly income (p=0.001) educational (p=0.005) associated with knowledge Religion (p=0.004) attitudes concluded that there huge gap awareness level, about half showing towards group this region. Community-based health education social mobilization urgently required age.
